SERVICES AND PRODUCTS

Contact Lens Fittings – Soft, RGP, Specialty, CRT, Bifocal

Dr. Dominguez has advanced training in Cornea Contact Lens at UCLA, Jules Stein Eye Institute. He specializes in “difficult to fit/medically necessary” contact lenses. Dr. Dominguez can custom design contact lenses for situations where no other option such as surgery, glasses or traditional contact lenses would be of benefit. Conditions Dr. Dominguez had helped include prior RK (Radial Keratotomy), hexagonal keratotomy, corneal transplant, post-LASIK, pellucid marginal corneal degeneration, high and irregular astigmastim, aphakia (in both children and adults) and keratoconus.

Additionally, both doctors specialize in Orthokeratology and CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy). These are specialized contact lenses that mold the shape of the eye while sleeping, which eliminates the need for glasses or contact lenses during the day. They are especially helpful in decreasing the rate of myopia in children.

Myopia Control

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is becoming an increased problem amongst children. This is due to a combination of factors, including family history, less time outdoors, and increased screen time. Myopia control is the term for slowing down the progression of nearsightedness, especially for children who’s eyes are changing at a rapid rate every year. At Modern Eyewear Optometry, our doctors can prescribe a treatment plan based on a child’s prescription. This could include a combination of drops, Orthokeratology, multifocal contact lenses or progressive glasses. If there is a family history of high myopia, and nearsightedness has started to progress, this is the optimal time to begin myopia control.

Retinal Camera and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

At Modern Eyewear Optometry, we have the latest technology including a retinal camera and OCT. These instruments allow the doctors to look inside the eye to diagnose ocular disorders such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and hypertensive retinopathy. They are used to monitor any changes in your eyes over time so that we may begin treatment early. One important example of how we use this camera is in the detection of glaucoma. Glaucoma has no symptoms at first, but yearly photos allow the doctors to detect changes in the appearance and health of the optic nerve.

Dry Eye Evaluations

Our doctors specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye syndrome. Symptoms of this debilitating disease range from blurred vision, burning, tired eyes (especially bad while at the computer towards the end of the day), irritation, and redness. We use questionnaires to review patient’s lifestyle, medications, and environment to determine the cause of the dryness, and then review the most appropriate treatment options. Examples of treatment include artificial tears, nutritional supplements, prescription drops, and punctal plugs.

Diabetic Screenings

Patients with diabetes need to have their eyes checked every six to twelve months to ensure there is no damage to the eye. The most common side effect from diabetes is diabetic retinopathy (leaking of the small blood vessels in the retina). If not caught early, diabetic retinopathy can cause blindness. The doctors at Modern Eyewear Optometry will write a thorough ocular report to your primary care doctor and / or endocrinologist to ensure proper management of this disease.

Infant Screenings

The doctors at Modern Eyewear Optometry are proud to be a part of the InfantSEE program (www.infantsee.org). This public health program provides free vision screenings to babies between the ages of six to twelve months. Testing for strabismus (lazy eye), refractive error (such as near or far sightedness or astigmatism), or ocular disease are all performed. It is important to have your child examined before the age of one to rule out any ocular conditions that may affect their vision and learning potential.

Glaucoma Diagnosis and Management

The doctors at Modern Eyewear Optometry provide thorough testing for glaucoma – a debilitating disease if not caught early. At every comprehensive examination, the doctors will check the intra-ocular pressure, peripheral vision (visual field), and appearance of the optic nerve. Every year, they will make sure that the appearance of the optic nerve does not change, which could be an early sign of glaucoma. If caught early, glaucoma can be treated to greatly reduce the risk of blindness.

LASIK Consultations

If you’re interested in getting LASIK either now or in the future, we can provide thorough ocular testing, giving you our honest opinion about whether you are a good candidate for this or any other refractive surgery procedure. Our doctors throughly review your type and amount of prescription, your expectations after surgery, the health of your eyes, the thickness and curvature of your cornea, and most importantly your day-to-day visual needs and expectations after surgery. Our doctors have worked with multiple top-rated refractive surgeons in Orange County and Los Angeles and have extensive experience, pre- and post-op ensuring you receive the best procedure for your condition.
